The Samsung Galaxy A27 continues Samsung's mission of bringing premium Galaxy features to a more affordable price point. 

Sitting below the Galaxy A57, it offers a large AMOLED display, reliable cameras and lengthy software support without stretching into flagship territory.

Compared with the Galaxy A26, the A27 is more of an evolutionary upgrade than a complete overhaul. Samsung has swapped the previous Exynos processor for Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, introduced a cleaner Infinity-O display design and added faster memory, while keeping many of the features that made the A26 such a capable budget phone.

Samsung Galaxy A27: Design

At first glance, the Galaxy A27 looks familiar, but there are a few welcome refinements. The biggest visual change is the move to an Infinity-O punch-hole selfie camera, replacing the notch used on the Galaxy A26. It gives the display a cleaner, more modern appearance that's much closer to Samsung's premium Galaxy devices.

The phone features a glass front and back with Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection, while the plastic frame helps keep the weight to around 200g.

One notable difference from the A26 is the durability rating. The Galaxy A27 drops to IP64 water and dust resistance, meaning it offers splash protection but isn't quite as resilient as its predecessor's IP67 certification.

Samsung Galaxy A27: Display

Samsung continues to impress in the display department with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display featuring Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Colours are vibrant, scrolling feels smooth and the panel is well suited to streaming, gaming and social media.

Compared with the Galaxy A26, the specifications are largely unchanged, but the introduction of the Infinity-O display helps create a more immersive viewing experience by reducing distractions around the front camera.

For a phone at this price point, it's one of the A27's standout features and comfortably rivals many more expensive devices.

Along with a 12MP front camera, the Galaxy A27 features a triple-camera system consisting of:

• 50MP main camera with OIS
• 5MP ultrawide camera
• 2MP macro camera

Samsung's optical image stabilisation helps produce sharper photos in lower light, while the upgraded image processing delivers more natural colours and improved HDR performance for everyday photography.

Compared with the Galaxy A26, however, the hardware changes are fairly minimal. In fact, the ultrawide camera has been reduced from 8MP to 5MP, meaning image quality from that lens isn't a significant step forward. Most improvements come through software processing rather than new hardware.

Samsung Galaxy A27: Performance

The biggest upgrade comes under the hood.

Samsung replaces the Exynos 1380 with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, paired with 6GB of RAM and faster LPDDR5 memory, making everyday performance feel smoother than on the Galaxy A26. Apps launch more quickly, multitasking is more responsive and gaming benefits from improved graphics performance.

The phone launches with Android 16 and Samsung promises six generations of Android updates and six years of security updates, making the Galaxy A27 one of the longest-supported phones in its class.

Compared with the Galaxy A26, this is the most meaningful upgrade and should help keep the phone feeling fast for years to come.

Samsung Galaxy A27: Battery & Charging

Battery life remains one of the Galaxy A27's biggest strengths.

The 5,000mAh battery comfortably delivers a full day's use, while Samsung claims up to 23 hours of video playback on a single charge.

Charging is handled via 25W wired charging, allowing the battery to reach around 45% in 30 minutes. While competitors are beginning to offer faster charging speeds, the A27 still provides dependable endurance for everyday users.

Compared with the Galaxy A26, battery capacity and charging speeds remain unchanged, although the newer Snapdragon chipset should provide slightly better power efficiency.

Samsung Galaxy A27: Where it doesn't move the needle

The Galaxy A27 is all about refinement rather than reinvention. The display, battery size and charging speeds remain largely unchanged from the Galaxy A26, so existing owners won't notice a dramatic improvement in everyday use.

There are also a couple of compromises. Samsung has reduced the IP rating from IP67 to IP64, while the ultrawide camera drops from 8MP to 5MP. 

Although the new Snapdragon processor is a welcome upgrade, users hoping for major camera or battery improvements may come away slightly disappointed.

How much is the Samsung Galaxy A27?

The Samsung Galaxy A27 starts from £319, depending on the storage configuration and retailer.

Typical configurations include:

• 128GB, 6GB RAM - £329
• 128GB, 8GB RAM - £319
• 256GB, 8GB RAM - £379

This keeps it firmly in Samsung's budget-to-mid-range lineup, sitting below the Galaxy A57 while offering many of the same core Galaxy features.

There’s also colour options as usual, with only Black available for the 6GB RAM option while the 128GB, 8GB RAM and 256GB options have the choice of Black, Blue and Light Pink.

Samsung Galaxy A27: Our Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy A27 is exactly what many buyers want from a budget smartphone. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but instead builds on the strengths of the Galaxy A26 with a cleaner design, faster processor and Samsung's class-leading software support.

Compared with the Galaxy A26, the Snapdragon chipset is the standout improvement, helping the phone feel quicker and more responsive in everyday use. 

However, the camera hardware, battery and charging remain largely familiar, and a couple of downgrades to the ultrawide camera and water resistance mean it's not a clear upgrade in every department.
